BrownfieldAgNews reports:

Farmers in the Upper Midwest are assessing the impact of devastating weekend rains.

Angela Guentzel farms near Mankato in south-central Minnesota and says there’s been record rainfall this spring.

“And (officials) have just declared a state of emergency for flash floodings, and that’s just had such a huge effect. Many farms in this area did not get planted, we’re going to see a lot more prevent plant going on.”

In southwest Minnesota, Bill Gordon of Worthington tells Brownfield recent storm systems have dumped 7 to 15 inches of rain.

“Really kind of devastated those low grounds again, and a lot of waterways and fields that normally don’t have water on them. It’s really saturated, a lot of standing water, and just nowhere for it to go.”

Gordon and Guentzel say many farmers have replanted more than once and crops are very uneven throughout southern Minnesota.
