President Trump announced Thursday that the administration will utilize tariff revenue to help assist U.S. farmers that have faced a struggling rural economy.
“We’re going to take some of that tariff money that we’ve made and we’re going to give it to our farmers,” Trump said, “who are, for a little while, going to be hurt until the tariffs kick in to their benefit. We’re going to make sure our farmers are in great shape because we’re taking in a lot of money.”
No further details were disclosed, but Trump said his administration’s tariff actions will benefit producers in the long run.
“Ultimately, the farmers are going to be making a fortune,” he said.
The president made his comments during a Thursday morning meeting at the White House with the president of Turkey.
