Omaha, NE — The CLAAS JAGUAR 1200 — the highest horsepower model of the new JAGUAR 1000 series — set a new official world record, harvesting 4,515 tons of whole crop wheatlage in 12 hours. The record, set in June, more than doubled the 2001 World Record. The machine also achieved unmatched efficiency, consuming only 0.117 gallons of fuel per ton of harvested crop.

From Idea to Action

The idea for the record attempt came from Matt Jaynes, JAGUAR Product Manager at CLAAS of America, Ty Rankin of Lonestar Ag and Todd Poling of P.M.S. Harvesting. Reflecting on the 2001 World Record of 2,058 tons harvested in 12 hours, they decided it was time to raise the bar. Their goal was straightforward — to see what the new 1,110-horsepower JAGUAR 1200 could do under real-world, demanding conditions over a full day in the field.

On June 2, after months of planning, all signs were a go. Jaynes, the operator for all 12 hours, set the chop length to 17 mm, activated the CEMOS AUTO PERFORMANCE and AUTO FILL assistance systems and set the GPS PILOT CEMIS 1200 steering system to “Center Pivot Mode.”

The JAGUAR 1200 and its newly updated PICK UP header went to work on a circle of wheat outside Dalhart, Texas. To keep pace with the forage harvester, the crew used a DISCO 9700 RC AUTO SWATHER with AXION 960 tractor and 30 trucks. On the silage pile, a XERION 12.590 with silage blade distributed and compacted the wheatlage.

Jaynes kept a brisk pace, filling a truck every 2 minutes and 42 seconds, only stopping the machine for a few knife-sharpening cycles and a short refueling stop. Twelve hours later, the flag was waved and the record recorded. By the time the last truck was loaded, they shattered the 24-year-old record, harvesting 4,515 tons of wheatlage, officially marking a new Guinness World Record.

The new NUTRIMETER, which provides real-time dry matter measurements, provided valuable insights during harvest. The technology measured 59.4% moisture, matching almost exactly the 60.006% moisture measurements taken on the scales by P.M.S. Harvesting.

Poling, who has run a fleet of JAGUAR choppers since the late ’90s and his dealer, LoneStar Ag, managed the location and logistics. The JAGUAR 1200 truly wowed them both. “It’s a heck of a machine. It blew everybody’s minds,” Poling said. “Good people, good equipment, and we set a big record.”

The world record performance confirmed what this year’s field demos have pointed at. “It’s amazing how much more capacity this machine has over our prior models,” Jaynes said. “We wanted to show how far we could push efficiency, whether that means harvesting more acres per machine or helping operators make the most of a short window to get the crop out.”

After 12 hours in the cab, Jaynes was grateful for the redesigned cab in the new JAGUAR 1000 series. Not only is it quieter, down five decibels from previous models, but the ride is smoother and offers operator comfort controls that make long hours more tolerable.

About the JAGUAR 1000 Series

Officially launched in August, the JAGUAR 1000 series delivers unmatched throughput with the widest crop flow channel on the market and a new pre-compression system for uniform feeding and consistent chop quality. Its 36-in. V-FLEX knife drum provides greater space and inertia for faster, more efficient processing, while interchangeable knives allow for flexible cutting lengths.

Powered by a 24-liter V12 MAN engine with CEMOS AUTO PERFORMANCE and all-wheel drive, the harvester automatically adapts to changing conditions for maximum efficiency. The new MULTI CROP CRACKER XL improves grain and stover processing speeds by up to 50%. These precise engineering upgrades make this machine a game-changer for large dairy and beef operations as well as custom harvesters.

“This machine changes what one unit can get done in a season,” Jaynes said. “Whether a customer wants to reduce fleet size, cover more acres or harvest more crop at the optimal moisture level, the JAGUAR 1200 gives them margin they didn’t have before.”
