Washington, DC — Trust in the country’s food supply continues to drop, with only 55% of U.S. consumers confident in the safety of the food systems in place, according to this year’s IFIC Food and Health Survey.
This is the second consecutive year survey respondents have indicated less confidence in the country’s food supply, down from 62% in 2024 and 70% in 2023.
For those who indicated that they were not confident in American food safety, 59% said they believed profit in the food industry was prioritized over safety. Of these same respondents, 46% indicated that they didn’t think federal government food supply regulation was “strict enough.”
Asked about their most important food safety concerns, the top three issues for consumers were foodborne illnesses such as E. coli and listeria, carcinogens in food and pesticide residue.
This survey of 3,000 U.S. consumers was conducted March 13-27, and results were weighted by age, education, gender, race/ethnicity and region.
