BrownfieldAgNews reports:

Early U.S. corn planting is a little bit slower than the past several years.

The USDA says that as of Sunday, 4% of U.S. corn is planted, compared to the five-year average of 5%, with wet conditions delaying activity in some areas.

2% of soybeans are planted, matching the normal rate.

47% of U.S. winter wheat is rated good to excellent, down 1% on the week and 8% on the year, with 8% headed, in-line with the average.

7% of spring wheat is planted, which is also the typical pace this time of year.

5% of cotton is planted, compared to 8% on average.

32% of the rice crop is planted, faster than in most recent years.

15% of sorghum is planted, equal to usual total in mid-April.

The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports run through the end of November.
