Bloomington, IL — Dr. Temple Grandin, who inspired many at the Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leader Conference in 2022, is USA Today’s 2025 Woman of the Year.

This is the latest in many honors for Grandin, who graduated with a doctorate from the University of Illinois in 1989.

She was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2010, was the subject of an Emmy Award-winning HBO movie and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016, according to her website.

Today, most of the large livestock processing plants use Grandin’s center track restrainer system design.

The impact the Colorado State University professor of animal sciences has had on livestock welfare, and the understanding of autism is clear with the large attendance she draws every time she visits Illinois and elsewhere.
