Growers Have New Option for Crop Insurance Production Reporting

New RMA rules now accept grain cart scales as proof of production for 2022

June 24th, 2022

Sioux Falls – The Risk Management Agency (RMA) for 2022 will accept grain cart scales as proof of production for crop insurance reporting, no matter where the grain is stored. The change comes after a request from multiple Precision Risk Management’s insureds.

Growers now have an additional method to make their crop insurance reporting easier with technology many farmers already own. “Any ability we can have to reduce the reporting burden on farmers and leverage technology is a great step in the right direction,” said Art Duvall, Director of Claims. The new grain cart method can be used by growers if all requirements are met.

Before this change, growers were prevented from using this precision technology when taking their crop to a commercial elevator. Precision Risk Management introduced the change to National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS) as a way to help more growers adopt precision technology across the US. After review by Approved Crop Insurance Providers, the change was presented and adopted by RMA. The teamwork of all NCIS members paved the way for this new solution for growers.
